I gave everyone just a little taste of Jono in the early years. I guess I should digress just a little bit and explain how I met his mother. It was back in 1992. A day in the life for me was work, eat, and play softball. I was definitely hoping to find a wife at the time. At the time, my resume for the future wife consisted of great cook, lousy dresser, two left feet, and fairly handsome from a distance.
This may not have been a lot but it was, at least, a minimal start. I forgot to add that my wardrobe consisted of just about every college t-shirt available from east coast (Boston College,Syracuse,Harvard) to west coast (USC,UCLA,Colorado) and some tight shorts from the 80's. That is what I had and the story is definitely true that men gain more confidence when they get a girlfriend and/or get married. We start out timid and after about 6 months feel that we should be dating the celebrities. Halle never did call.
On this particular day, I had to go to the K-mart to buy something. To this day, I still have no idea what it was. As I was walking into the store, I saw this beautiful, young lady that I had to meet. Remember, that is the vision. Mentally, I'm ready. I am just going to go say hello. Your body and mouth have their own plan designated. We'll take his confidence away and go shop. So, I went inside of the store and bought something (?). I don't know what it was and I went back home.
Resume' addition, lived in own home. Never knew when I would need the housing line. Never easily detered by my own lack of confidence I went back to the K-mart the next day. It was a hit or miss. I didn't know if she was working on any given day. On this particular day, she was at the customer service desk. I pulled my bag of confidence from my pocket. Then, I waited in line at customer service desk and said hi. It was a little bit awkward only because I had nothing to return or buy at the time but I got my first hello in. That was a major breakthrough for me.
Needless to say, I went back every day. Sometimes, she was working and sometimes she wasn't. As I got to wait in line and strike up conversations my courage increased. Finally, I gave her my phone number. I was still a little shy and hoped she would call me. A few days later I got a call. The nice voice on the other end asked for "Goff". That was me with a lot of mispronunciation of a fine english name. That started the relationship that led up to currently 17 years of marriage. Stay tuned as there is more to come
